THE INTERNATIONAL OPTION BACCALAUREATE (OIB)
The OIB is one of the French ‘general’ baccalaureates, L (French, Languages or Arts, Philosophy), ES (Economics, Mathematics), and S (Mathematics, Physics/Chemistry, Earth and Life Sciences), with an additional international option.
Here is a list of international “High-Schools” (called “Lycées” in French) near l’Etang-la-ville offering the “Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB)” categorized by original language. We strongly recommend the Lycee International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which has become one of, if not the very best lycee in France in the recent years (international or not). Here is a list of all the languages available for the OIB and the schools that offer them:

THE BRITISH SCHOOL OF PARIS
The British School of Paris caters for English-speaking children of over 50 nationalities (about 70% of them British) ages 4-18. It is a non-profit Association in France managed by a Board of Governors under the patronage of His Excellency the British Ambassador.
The British School of Paris has a reputation for excellent teaching, good discipline and a wealth of sporting and musical possibilities.
Small overall numbers, modest class sizes and a supportive pastoral care system, mean that new pupils integrate quickly and find themselves well motivated in their work. The pupils are happy to come to School, they participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, and they enjoy excellent results at all levels in standardised UK examinations.
British qualifications are recognized by universities throughout the European Union.
At the Senior School students enter at the age of 11 and for the first three years, a broad general curriculum is maintained in line with the National Curriculum of England and Wales.
Pupils are prepared for the GCSE, AS and A Level examinations in a comprehensive range of subjects. All those leaving Year 13 go on to university, most to the United Kingdom, including Oxford and Cambridge, some to North America, South Africa and Paris and others to their home country.
The Junior School is on a beautiful wooded site overlooking the Seine valley and has many modern facilities.
The staff are all well-qualified and the classroom atmosphere is disciplined and focussed.
Here again, the pupils follow a course of study in line with the National Curriculum. The accent is on literacy and numeracy, but a full range of subjects are on offer, including specialist teaching in French, music and sport.
Integration is our first consideration, and the staff are experienced in helping their new charges settle in.
At age 11, all children are entered for the Year Six SATs, as in the UK. Results are always excellent, and transfer into the Senior School easy.

The Junior School Bougival enjoys a beautiful wooded location on sloping ground overlooking the Seine valley. The site is secluded, safe and very pretty. Some 320 pupils occupy classrooms spaced around a central play area, with a main building containing offices, bright spacious rooms, a resource centre and swimming-pool. The children follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales. They are taught by well-qualified British and (for French lessons) French staff with a genuine interest in their pupils. With a French lesson every day, specialist tuition in music and sport, the children receive an excellent all-round education. The School caters for children of all abilities and the pupils achieve excellent results at SAT examinations in Year 6. Visitors to the School often comment on the happy, focussed atmosphere within the classrooms. We provide a hot lunch for all children, and we enjoy a very good relationship with parents, some of whom offer activities or help out in the classroom. A bus service transports children to the School from Paris and the surrounding area, and the supervision is carried out by members of staff. |

The Junior School Croissy, located on the Senior School site, provides education for pupils at Key Stage 2 (Years 3 - 6). Housed in its own area of the school, ensuring a welcoming and supportive primary school environment, pupils also have access to specialist facilities such as the Sports Hall and ICT suite. Music, sport and extra curricular activities form an important part of school life. An outdoor education trip to the Ardeche is part of the curriculum for Year 6 and pupils are also invited to participate in the School’s annual ski trip. Opportunities are given to some of the older pupils to travel to the occasional international sporting fixture and a team represents the school in the annual ECIS Primary Maths Quest. A close link with a local French primary school, with a regular programme of joint activities, enables pupils to flourish in their local environment. |

The initial charm of the Senior School is its idyllic situation along a calm, beautiful stretch of the Seine, a ‘château’ concealing a modern school. Once you enter the grounds, the friendly reception is striking, and inside the classrooms the focus of the pupils and respectful interaction of staff and students make you realise this is a place of learning, a British school in an attractive environment. The academic content of the children’s day is based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales, and gives students of all nationalities a broad education, enabling them to proceed with confidence to their next challenge. Music, drama, dance, sport, practical and physical activities make up a programme which extends pupils in all directions. |
